In an effort to emphasize the season of Thanksgiving, I’m celebrating it all through the month of November. Earlier I explained my 21 Days of Giving Thanks challenge, which you can read about here. Today let’s focus on giving thanks for special friends from the past.
Day 13 – Give Thanks for Old Friends
By old friends I do not necessarily mean aged friends, but that may be the case for you. We all have cherished friendships from the past, and we share special memories God gave us at certain place in time. Is it any wonder that as we age we begin more and more to tell stories from the past? To some extent, the “good old days” really were just that. God made us with the ability to supress the little things that annoy us and hold on to the nostalgic memories of a happy past. When held in proper perspective, these memories are not bad.
Of course, we need to look to the future. We need to move on to the work God has given us. But at the same time, we would be losing a little bit of who we are if we failed to remember the friends from the past and the wonderful times we shared. In a world chock-full of broken relationships, it’s a blessing to meet an old friend, smile, and reminisce.
Challenge: Thank God for the good friendships you have had over the years. Contact an old friend and let them know you appreciate them, are thinking of them, and praying for them this Thanksgiving.
