I recently wrote in a blog post how I hoped to share lyrics that never made it as songs or poems that simply sat in my files. One of my greatest disappointments is when I meet other artists with so much they can offer the world, but will little initiative to share it. I am resolving to avoid that error at the risk of committing another equally great error. I may not have much to offer the world and still share it! You can decide, and if what I write is worth taking the time to read, praise be to God.
This particular song I wrote didn’t quite fit the publisher’s need. That can happen in songwriting. A certain text or tune might not fit the audience of a given publisher, or it may strike on a theme that they have already covered or are not focusing on. The song may still be great. Just not usable for a given time and place. It can take some time to find the right home for lyrics. Until then, this blog will be its home. Good writing is re-writing, so I touched it up a bit more before posting. Hope you like it.
Savior Alight
Vs. 1
They say the ancient mariners
Were led across the sea
By charting out the scattered stars
That dot our galaxy.
So when a tempest hid the light
That led them on their way,
They knew that they would be all right,
The clouds would pass away.
Vs. 2
But oh! When storms of life arise,
They cover up your face!
My sin-sick soul believes the lie
That I am far from grace.
Can winds of doubt blow out my hope,
My Morning Star above?
Depressing waves may rock the boat,
But I am your beloved.
Chorus
Savior alight, burning bright,
Bringing me through the night.
I can’t see your hand, so I’ll trust your heart
To sail me safely home,
To sail me safely home.
Vs. 3
Someday the mist will roll away
Beneath the rising Son.
I’ll thank the Lord he led the way
And never let me run.
I’ll catch a glimpse of golden shores
That shine beyond compare.
Then moor my ship forevermore—
No anchors needed there!
Chorus
Savior alight, burning bright,
Bringing me through the night.
I can’t see your hand, so I’ll trust your heart
To sail me safely home,
To sail me safely home.
